DESNE P. WHARTON
Desne is a multi-disciplinary artist. Her designs, films, and installations are centered around capturing the multiplicity of Blackness by way of textured visuals and soundscapes.
Raised in D.C., Desne found her passion for the arts at an early age. However, it was not until age 14, vocal music student at The Duke Ellington School of the Arts, and an intern in the ICAN Technical Theater Internship program in Southeast, DC, that she would gravitate towards theatre and film production. She went on to study Theatre Design & Technology and Film Studies at Penn State University, graduating in May 2019.
Since then, Desne has been working as a freelance projection designer, editor, graphic designer, and filmmaker. Her background in vocal performance makes her musical in all things- from her editing choices to the movement of the images she captures digitally and on film.
She is currently a first-year MFA student in Integrated Media for Live Performance at The University of Texas at Austin.
Desne's mission, through her work in the theater, film, and TV production industries, is to provide representation and mentorship for young black people that brings awareness to careers that are both creative and technical.
